Finland came into conflict with the Soviet Union in the so-called Winter War from 1939 to 1940 and subsequently after the invasion of the Soviet Union by Germany from 1941 to 1944 in the so-called Continuing War. During the Winter War, the Finnish Air Force acquired aircraft mainly from Britain, France and the USA, because Germany was not interested in deteriorating otherwise very good relations with the Soviet Union during this period. After the German invasion of the USSR, the situation naturally changed. Germany began supplying aircraft to its ally. Initially, these were loot planes, especially from defeated France. Later, as the situation for the Germans on the Soviet front began to deteriorate, the Germans agreed to supply modern aircraft. The Finnish author's pictorial publication documents all used German aircraft and describes their deployment,
